Urinary tract infection (UTI)

Experiencing burning pain when passing urine, especially towards the end of the urinary stream, is one of the most common symptoms of a UTI. Other symptoms include feeling a pressing urge to go to the bathroom to pass urine frequently but only passing very small amounts of urine each time, and sometimes even a headache.

UTIs are common infections that happen when bacteria, often from the skin or rectum, enter the urethra and infect the urinary tract. The infections can affect several parts of the urinary tract, but the most common type is a bladder infection (cystitis).

We can prescribe medication that clears the bacteria causing the UTI, as well as medication to manage the severe pain experienced when passing urine. We can also advise on ways to avoid getting a UTI again in the future.
